History

The Bayou Community Band started in the 1980's with the first conductor Mr. James "Moosie" Gory. Mr. Gory is a former band director of Thibodaux High School. The band was put together to allow school concert musicians to join other seasoned musicians in making music for community enjoyment. Mr. Ted Hoffmann, Jr. was president of the organization for the first 30 years. Now the president is John Kosar.

Since its formation in the 1980's there have been several musical offshoots of the band. The Dixieland Band was formed to continue the expression of the jazz heritage in our area. The Saxophone Ensemble consists of up to seven musicians performing the different voiced saxophones. The Choir performed with the band at its winter concert and other special events for many years.
